About Northwood

A Twin Cities family furniture business since 1998 — two showrooms, six house collections, and our own delivery crews.

Northwood opened on Riverfront Avenue in 1998 with one showroom, a rented box truck, and a decision that still shapes the business: carry fewer lines, and know them completely.

Most furniture retailers carry forty brands. We carry six house collections. That means every frame on our floor came from a factory our buyer has walked, every fabric has been rubbed on a Martindale machine before we put it on a sofa, and when a customer asks how a weave holds up with a golden retriever, the answer comes from experience rather than a spec sheet.

What we build the business on

Our own crews. The people who deliver your sofa are Northwood employees on Northwood trucks. That is why we can give you a two-hour window instead of a day, hold an order for a remodel that ran long, and come back out when a drawer glide fails in year three.

Designers who are not on a commission ladder. Nobody here earns more by selling you the bigger sectional. It is why our designers will tell you the piece you like is wrong for the room, and why they occasionally tell people to keep the sofa and replace the rug.

Six collections, deeply. Marlowe for upholstery. Ashcombe for solid white-oak casegoods. Copperfield for leather and steel. Belmont Rest for sleep. Terrace Road for outdoor. Wren & Co. for apartment-scale pieces. That is the whole floor, and we can tell you the frame construction of any of it from memory.

Two showrooms

Riverfront, Saint Paul — 35,000 square feet of full room settings and the complete fabric and finish library.

Westgate, Minnetonka — the full floor plus the clearance room at the back, where floor models, customer returns, and reupholstered pieces land at 30–50% off.

The part that matters

Furniture is one of the few purchases where the experience after the sale is most of the product. Anyone can show you a sofa. The question is who answers the phone in year four.

We have been answering it from the same building since 1998.
